Trash Stash: June as well as July 2017: part 2 (Body as well as Hair Care, Makeup)

Trash Stash: June as well as July 2017: part 2 (Body as well as Hair Care, Makeup)

as well as here’s part 2 of my June as well as July trash Stash:

This is the balance of what I utilized up in the past couple of months as well as includes body as well as hair care, plus makeup!

Lichaamsverzorging

I’ll be showing some “before” pictures of the products before I completed with them.  I commonly believe it may be useful to show the actual products than just show the empty containers in these trash stock posts, however I don’t always keep in mind to take pictures beforehand!

Etam Bulleuse Paresseuse (Perfumed Body Sorbet)
I got this in a switch ages back as well as lastly cracked it open. I’ve not utilized a body moisturizer such as this before – it has the consistency of a yogurt drink.  It’s such a silky feeling moisturizer – it just sinks into the skin without any type of stickiness at all.

The scents are listed as bamboo, jasmine, lotus, lemon as well as eco-friendly apple – I mainly odor the jasmine as well as eco-friendly apple – a truly fresh combination for right after the morning shower. I’d like to get this once again however it came all the method from Belgium.

This cream is made in Switzerland!
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: No (sadly, not offered here)

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Buttercream – $20 for 300ml
I got this as a gift from polished & influenced as well as I like it! I’m somewhat addicted to the scent. It’s fizzy lime mixed with a soft vanilla scent that isn’t overpowering.

The consistency of the body butter is light as well as fluffy as well as doesn’t leave any type of greasy feeling on the skin – it’s the perfect summertime body moisturizer. I worked with this jar in about 3 weeks. I’m getting a replacement as soon as I validate in my head why the other 20 body lotions in my wardrobe can wait their turn. say thanks to you P&I for this!
Stash Wensheid: 10/10 Repurchase: Ja

Nova Scotia Fisherman Salt-N-Sea Body Scrub – $13.95 for 141g
This was rather a grainy scrub which I liked. however I discovered it to be extremely greasy on the skin – it likewise left a film on the bathtub, so after every single utilize of this scrub, I had to laundry the tub since I didn’t want my SO to take a flip in the douche! The scent of this scrub wasn’t what I was expecting – it is part lemongrass, part eco-friendly onion. It took me 4 utilizes to surface up this jar.
Stash Wensheid: 6/10 Repurchase: Nee

Bath & Body works kitchen area Lemon Foaming Hand Soap – $6.50 for 259ml
This is a essential for our kitchen area sink. We tend to prefer citrus scents for kitchen area as well as leave other scents for the bathroom. We’ve most likely bought this a lots times over the years.
Stash Wensheid: 9/10 Repurchase: Ja

Bath & Body works Juicy Georgia Peach Foaming Hand Soap – $6.50 for 259ml
The SO has a thing for peach scented stuff. I bought this to appease him when BBW temporarily stopped bring the Peach Bellini scent (his fav). I personally liked the Juicy Georgia Peach more than the Peach Bellini – I discover this to be sweeter.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: No (LE scent)

Bath & Body works wonderful summertime Kiss shower Gel – $12.50 for 295ml
This smelled like passionfruit as well as berries – I liked it sufficient as well as I’m sure I just grabbed it since it was 75% off during one of the semi-annual sales as well as the odor didn’t offend me.  I do like the thicker consistency of BBW shower gels.
Stash worthiness: 7/10     Repurchase: No (LE scent)

Bath & Body works Cactus flower & Coconut PocketBac Sanitizer – $1.50 for 29ml
I don’t especially like the concept of hand sanitizers however these do are available in handy if we’re away from washrooms as well as our hands ended up being sticky or dirty, as temporary fixes. This specific one smells like tulips mixed with coconut water.  The crab holder is my favourite – I’m a crab! (Cancer in the zodiac ) I’m not tossing the holder away – I just wished to show it off here.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: No (LE scent)

Onyx Moisturizing polish cleaner (lavender) – $4 for 473ml
One of my favourite nail polish removers. It works well to eliminate all traces of nail polish (including glitters) without stinking like strong chemicals or stripping my nails. It’s not simple to discover anymore ever since Walmart stopped bring this type however I’ve been seeing it at Winners lately.
Stash Wensheid: 10/10 Repurchase: Ja

Bath & Body works Wallflower in Peach Bellini as well as Waikiki beach Coconut Refills – $6.50 each
I decided to include house fragrances in my trash stock posts since I have included candles in the past.  I normally go with one Wallflower per month – we only utilize them in the bathroom (both for the scent benefit – ahem! – as well as for the night light element of the plugs).  The Peach Bellini one has excellent throw whereas the Waikiki beach Coconut is weak (sadly!). I truly like the decorative styles BBW puts on a few of their seasonal refill bulbs.  I goes without stating that I never pay full cost for anything from BBW – they constantly offer discount rates in the type of coupons as well as qty bundles.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Yes for the Peach Bellini

Haarverzorging

L’Oreal Matt & untidy Shine-Free Salt Spray – $10 for 150ml
Found this on clearance as well as decided to provide it a try. It does provide a tousled look however it likewise leaves the hair crunchy as well as feeling dried out. I did like it for the underside of my hair at the back though – provided it additional oomph as well as body.
Stash Wensheid: 6/10 Repurchase: Nee

Curl Keeper original – $17 for 250ml
You must be ill of seeing this. It’s a staple! I did switch to one more product (Tigi Bed Head Foxy curls extreme curl Mousse which I utilized up last month) however came back to this. I just noticed it reads “pH 4.4-4.8” on the bottle, I suppose that’s a great pH level for the hair?  It took about 5 weeks to get with this bottle.
Stash Wensheid: 10/10 Repurchase: Ja

Kiehl’s Amino Acid Shampoo – $75 for 1L
Finally I’m completed this 1L bottle. I’ve been decanting this into the little bottle (shown) as well as I’ve been working with this for the past couple of years. I like turning my shampoos so that’s why it took a while. I’m definitely stocking up once again when Kiehl’s has their good friends & household sale. I like the scent of this – a blend of infant powder as well as coconut. Plus, it’s a excellent clarifying shampoo that doesn’t dry out my hair.
Stash Wensheid: 9/10 Repurchase: Ja

Bedenken

I handled to surface a lot of base products this month!

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard – $36 for 6ml
I won’t go as well much into this since I did a detailed evaluation right here however I will state that the colour match during the winter months wasn’t the very best – it was as well peach as well as dark on me so I had to stop utilizing it for about 4 months.

In total, I would state this tube lasted me about 6 months with routine use. I’m curious to try the A’Pieu damp Creamy Concealer, which is supposed to be quite comparable, for only $8.
Stash waardigheid: 8/10 Repurchase: Ja

KATE Stick Concealer in natural beige – ¥1,000 (approx C$12.50) for 3.1g
One of my all time favourite stick concealers to utilize for redness or spots. It’s pigmented as well as creamy as well as blends well into my skin. I’ve tried this under my eye however it’s a bit tricky – checked out my evaluation right here on exactly how I handled to make it work. I listed this as my top discoveries in 2014 as well as have been focusing on completing it up in the last 18 months. It’s lastly finished!
Stash Wensheid: 9/10 Repurchase: Ja

W7 HD foundation in Buff – $5 for 30ml
I’m conflicted about liking this foundation so much since it is made in China!  But, at least it didn’t bring an inflated cost tag. What I liked about this foundation is exactly how effortless it was – simple to apply with either my fingers or a sponge. The protection is medium with a satin finish. It used well on the skin as well as matched my skin tone.  It behaved like a much more costly foundation – the packaging is even made from glass!  I discovered this at Winners while doing the $20 makeup difficulty as well as I haven’t seen it at the stores lately. I’m not in a hurry to replace this since I have so many other foundations to surface up, however I would definitely repurchase it.
Stash Wensheid: 9/10 Repurchase: Misschien

Sephora MicroSmooth Baked foundation deal with Powder in #15 Light – $27 for 7g
This is just like MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish natural powder. They’re both my favourite deal with powders. Price-wise, this is somewhat more costly than MAC’s ($3.86 per gram vs MAC’s $3.40) however when this is on for 15-20% off during the VIB sale, it brings the cost down below MAC’s. What I like about this powder is the surface – it is extremely natural, as well as not a flat matte. It has a nice blurring impact as well as feels lightweight on the skin.  The protection is great however I don’t utilize this as a powder foundation, just as a completing powder dusted on top of my foundation or BB cream.
Stash Wensheid: 10/10 Repurchase: Ja

As usual, I completed a few mascaras – I normally utilize a mascara for 2 months as well as rotate between 2 to 3 different ones.

Joe Fresh fine tip liquid eyeliner in Dark brown – $8
I listed this in my favourites earlier this year – it uses truly well as well as the brown colour is perfect for everyday. one of the few felt tip liners that I would think about repurchasing (I normally prefer clean tip liners). This pen lasted me about 7 months in total.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Maybe

Jordana finest Lash extreme Volumizing Mascara in Black – $4 USD for 9ml
I got this from fitness center Bag makeup since I’ve been pining for this cult product for ages!
Stash Wensheid: 8/10 Repurchase: Misschien

Avon True Color Wide Awake Mascara in Black – $ 10
Stash Wensheid: 7/10 Repurchase: Nee

Blogmas Day 24: who would you kiss under the mistletoe?

Blogmas Day 24: who would you kiss under the mistletoe?

It’s finally Christmas Eve!

Today is the final collab Blogmas topic, and again, we have Kaily to thank for this one:

If you could be under a mistletoe with anyone who would it be? [and you can’t say your SO]

Nou goed dan!

Instead of listing hunky Hollywood men, I’m going to do something different (would you expect anything less from me?) – I’ll list some lady crushes of mine.  For some reason all of my recent girl crushes have been from spy films released this past year – here goes:

Alicia Vikander

She appeared in The man from U.N.C.L.E. and at the time the only thing I knew about her was that she was dating Michael Fassbender (they’ve since broken up). She is currently starring in The Danish Girl, and she just received two golden globe nominations. one of the things I like about her is her voice – it’s so sultry.

I had to find a still from the movie The man from U.N.C.L.E. that included Henry Cavill, because… hello nurse!

Rebecca Ferguson

I was mesmerized by her in mission impossible Rogue nation – she plays a strong female lead, kicking ass while managing to look amazing.

I also like that she’s not some young waif (and I seem to have a thing for Swedes? Alicia Vikander is also Swedish) – I can’t wait to see her in more things.

Léa Seydoux

There’s just something about her that’s really captivating. only she could convince James Bond to leave the world of espionage… you may also remember her in another spy film – she played an assassin for hire in mission impossible Ghost Protocol back in 2011.

How incredible did she look in the train scene from Spectre? I want to know what shade her lipstick was!

And my top pick for kissing under the mistletoe (not from any recent spy films):

Cate Blanchett

She’s just so classy and real! *sigh*  She’s been a long time girl crush of mine, and I know that I’m not alone!

The movie Hanna was on TV the other week, and even while playing a villain, she’s still perfect.

I told my SO about these and he’s totally fine with my picks! En jij? Who are your girl crushes? I think it’s such a weird concept that women can have lady crushes but men can’t have guy crushes without being called names?.

Be sure to check out the rest of the Babes in Blogland for their list of who they’d kiss under the mistletoe!

PUFU update

PUFU update

earlier this year, I introduced my little project, called Project use it the F*%@ Up! (or PUFU for short).  I had identified 2 products in my stash that I really love and delight in using, however, they were neglected and risked spoilage before they were get used up.  So I set out on a mission to finish them up.

A quick re-cap:
1) Mirabella Outshine lip gloss in Illusion
It was at 1.40cm used up out of a total of 6.2cm (7.5ml total volume).

2) Stella by Stella McCartney eau de parfum
It had 1.10cm left in the bottle out of a total 4.60cm (30ml bottle).

I’ve been making good progress!

Oops, I just realized I wrote tomorrow’s date. I’m posting from the fuuuuture!
I’ve been keeping my Mirablla lip gloss separate from the rest of my lip stuff on my desk at work, so that it’s front and center.  There are days though, when I’m rocking a darker lip, or don’t want too much shine so I haven’t been consistently using it daily as I wanted to.

But I’m pretty pleased – the level has from from the “H” down to “U”, or 2.60cm from the top.  I’ve used 1.20cm of gloss!  There are a multitude of lip products that I want to include as part of my PUFU but I think I’ll just focus on this for now.

As for the Stella perfume, I can actually see an end in sight:

For the past 3 months, I’ve probably worn this perfume 90% of the time (the other 10% I am wearing NEST Dahlia & Vines, which was a best of 2014 Discovery).  I only need to spray this once because it’s an eau de parfum rather than an eau de toilette. I’ve also started to spritz a little in my hair.

Now that it’s spring going into Summer, I likely won’t reach for this as much because I find it’s a scent better suited for cooler weather.  Maybe, just maybe, this will make an appearance in a trash stash in 2015!  I’ll be checking in on both items again in the Fall.

What preferred products have you been trying to give much more love to?

Project use it the F*%@ Up!This idea concerned me when I rediscovered my Mirabella Outshine lip gloss in Illusion, which I keep in a pen holder on my desk at work.  I absolutely love this lip gloss, it’s probably one of my top 5 coloured lip products of all time.  But can you believe that this particular…

Favourites Lately: early 2017

Favourites Lately: early 2017

This is my first quarterly favourites post for 2017. I’ve been taking down notes on various items that I’ve enjoyed between January and March:

I try to have a balance of items but it looks like this is more heavy on the makeup front.

Huidsverzorging:

• Illamasqua Hydra Veil – Although Illamasqua maintains that this is much more than a primer, I mainly use it just as a primer. I don’t think it’s possible to replace my moisturizer with just this. It’s an excellent hydrating primer though – when I want flawless looking base, I use this in conjunction with Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation.

And half the fun of using this product is the experience of it: the packaging, the spoon, and the jelly texture.

• Alpha Hydrox enhanced lotion 10% AHA – I use this like a serum at nighttime, applying a thin layer to cleaned skin after toning and before applying my Shiseido Bio-Performance advanced super Revitalizing Cream. It’s a basic but effective chemical exfoliant. My skin feels so soft and my winter flakes have been kept at bay. The only downside of this product is that it’s not readily available here – I only see it from time to time at Winners (which is where I found this).

• The Body shop drops of youth Eye Concentrate – I have a weakness for eye serums in roller balls. this one has a neat dispensing mechanism where you press down and the product oozes out – one full pump is way too much so I do half a pump and that’s enough for both eyes. I only use this on my eyelids to depuff – it feels so soothing on the eyes and has replaced the discontinued Mary Kay eye serum roller ball – I was so worried about not finding a worthy successor but it looks like I have!

• Allie UV Mineral moist Neo SPF 50 PA++++ – I bought this in Japan and started using it at the end of January. The formula is outstanding! very lightweight and feels hydrating – it’s more like a light lotion than sunscreen. I’ll do a extensive review soon.

• Ole Henriksen truth Serum – I used this up last month but I had enough foresight to take some photos before it was all gone. This was a deluxe sample (15ml) lasted me 2 months and provided good hydration as well as bringing luminosity to my skin. I’d like to get a full size so see more long term effects.

• Hydrocolloid bandages – My skin has been acting up lately with hormonal acne on my chin and I decided to give these a go after hearing good things about them.  The trick with these is that the pimple needs to have popped or have an opening for the stuff to get sucked out. I know, super gross.  But, these little miracle workers really shrink blemishes and my skin is smoother by morning!

Haarverzorging:

• Tigi Bed Head Foxy curls extreme curl Mousse – The scent of this is what got me initially. It smelled like candy but I couldn’t identify it until about the third usage – banana Runts! The trick with this one is to thinly and evenly distribute it through damp hair or else it can cause crunchy bits. It has remarkable hold.

Lichaamsverzorging:

• bath & Body works Foaming shower Gel in Tiki Mango Mai Tai – This dispenses like a gel and expands into foam, similar to foaming shave gels. That’s half the fun with this shower gel but it is also very moisturizing and smells like a tropical (non-alcoholic) beverage. Sadly, this is a limited edition item but you may be able to find them at outlet locations.

• bath & Body works Body mist in Twisted peppermint – I am officially obsessed with this scent. It smells like peppermint cotton candy. It’s a completely juvenile scent but I don’t care – it smells so refreshing.  I haven’t been as enamoured by a bath & Body works scent since Waikiki beach Coconut! The downside is that the lasting power of this is fairly weak so I have to spritz a lot on – look at how  much I used and I only got this in January!

• NuWorld Botanicals Whipped Borage Oil Hand & Foot Butter – This stuff is incredible in creating a protective barrier on the skin without a greasy feel. I’ve been using this nightly on both my hands and feet and I wake up with super soft skin.

• Trader Joe’s Coconut Body Butter – I asked a coworker get this for me last year since I heard such terrific things about it. It really IS amazing! The texture is super thick but not at all greasy – it feels almost like silicone but I see none listed in the ingredients – I’m not sure how they’ve done this. and it smells like coconut ice cream! Also, the lid flips up rather than screws off, which I find to be very handy. and this costs only $4.99 USD. Oh why oh why isn’t Trader Joe’s in Canada yet?

Nails:

• OPI My Pointe exactly – very sheer formula that requires 3 coats to provide a tint of grey but this is intentional, as this polish was part of their Ballet collection. This gives such a clean understated look to my nails.

• Sephora formula X in iconic – this is a one coat wonder. I got this for Christmas 2 years ago and this is the first time I’ve worn it. It’s a shifting chrome finish that’s green-y gold.

Left: Revlon Untamed , right: ILNP central Station
• Revlon Untamed – this looks like an indie polish, it’s such a complex and interesting colour (brown / black / pink / gold?), with irregular bits of glitter.

• ILNP central station – I just picked this up recently and I couldn’t wait to slap it on my nails!  Two words: holographic. taupe.

Bedenken:

• Illamasqua Powder blush in Disobey – I got during Black Friday sales last year. This is labelled as a blush but the shade is more of a bronzer. It’s quite ochre undertone rather than orange / terracotta that’s typical of bronzers. It’s very pigmented so I have to use a light hand and a duo fibre brush. but it warms up my complexion really nicely when I apply it to the outer perimeter of my face (using the backwards “E” and “3” sweeps).

• Becca beach Tint Shimmer Souffle in Watermelon / Moonstone and Raspberry / Opal – I picked these up during the January clearance sales and they’re so effortless and leaves a stunning finish on the skin. I was also surprised that they last all day on my cheeks and they’re not sticky. The texture is fun: a malleable cushy gel – it’s best to apply these with fingers.

They both have light fruity scents that correspond back to their names (the smell do not linger). the best part about these is that they have the highlighter built-in so I can blush and highlight in one step.

• Smashbox High definition Concealer in Light – I’ve owned this for a couple of years but only recently came to appreciate how nicely it looks layered lightly over other concealers for the under eye area. On its own, I don’t find it has enough coverage, but layered, it provides a highlighted and lifted appearance.

• Seventeen Mono Eyeshadow in rose Quartz – I received this in a swap with DanniiJane and although it arrived crushed (no one’s fault, apparently these are very fragile! watch FleurDeForce talk about how hers “smashed” here) – I simply emptied the pan into a jar and use it like a loose eye shadow. It is a gorgeous shade of lilac-y taupe – I love wearing this all over the lid and just blending the edges with a warm transitional shade. It wears really well too – no fading or creasing for more than 10 hours.

• Anna Sui Eye & face Colour in A500 Tree and V500 Amber – These surprised me with how good they are – they’re certainly not just a pretty face!

The Amber shade is a velvet finish – it applies so smoothly and blends out really well. The Tree shade is a satin finish which has more shine – both colours lasts all day on my lids with no fading or creasing. I’ve got my eye on more of these refills so I can fill up my palette (it can hold 4 more!)

• Joe Fresh fine tip liquid eyeliner in Dark brown – I wasn’t sure I’d like this because it’s a not a brush tip, but rather a felt tip. I usually find felt tip liners to get clogged up and don’t dispense the product as evenly as brush tip liners. but this one has been going strong for the past 3 months – the line isn’t as fine as some of the Japanese made ones (this one is US-made) but the formula is quite good – it dries down matte and lasts well.  Really economical at only $8.

• Fleur de force Lip Gloss in  020 Written in the stars – it was love at first use! This MLBB shade is more like a liquid lipstick to me than just a lip gloss. It’s not sticky and smells like sweet cake batter! Interestingly, this is made in Czech Republic. I won this from Rachael’s giveaway!

Top: Fleur de force in Written in the stars , Bottom: Marvelous Moxie in big Tease
• bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie in big Tease – this came in a kit and has been living in my purse. I don’t love the minty tingling but the gloss is so easy to wear that I can get over it. The finish is shiny but not at all sticky – I like pairing this with a MLBB lip liner.

• Mary Kay Lip liner in Neutral – this has been residing in my purse lately. The colour is a rosy MLBB and the formula is long wearing. I also like that it’s an automatic pencil so I don’t have to sharpen it. I don’t see this particular shade listed any more but I suspect it’s similar to “Medium Nude”.

• NYX Lip liner in #825 1000 Years – I’m still on a lip liner kick and I’ve been wearing this muted taupe shade with a lip balm. It’s creamy and lasts well on the lips. Supposedly, this shade is a dupe for MAC Stone.

Gereedschap:

• MUJI Cotton Buds – I’ve discovered the teeniest tiniest cotton buds! look at how small it is compared to regular Q-Tips and The face shop ones:

I love that the MUJI one is so precise – I’ve been using these to clean up mascara smudges. No lint at all!

• Daiso Japan reusable Silicone Mask Cover for Sheet Mask – I picked this contraption in Japan and it’s been a terrific addition to my masking routine. You can use this several ways: over serum, over a sheet mask, over cream mask. I mainly use it over sheet masks. At first I found the fit to be a bit tight with the ear loops digging into my ears but I learned that it can be trimmed, which improved the fit.

Face primers: Shiseido and Cover FX

Face primers: Shiseido and Cover FX

I’m no expert on face primers.  I don’t have issues with foundations lasting on my skin, and I don’t have skin texture concerns that primers typically address (large pore, uneven skin, excessive oiliness).  Up until a few years ago, I never used a face primer but I’ve since incorporated it into my skin routine. I mainly use face primers as another layer of protection against the elements.

Today I’ll review 2 primers that I own, and they’re probably not the more popular brands that are typically reviewed online (Smashbox, Benefit, Hourglass) but they’re good for what need.

Shiseido Refining makeup Primer ($35 for 30ml) is a pretty tame primer – it doesn’t necessarily fill in pores or control oil, but it does provide a nice canvas for the application of makeup on top.  It’s not overly silicone-y in texture – it feels like a light lotion and has no scent.  It has a pinky beige tone which has a brightening effect (it does not leave a pink cast once blended).  As with most primers, a little bit of product is all that’s required. I dot this on my cheeks, forehead, nose and chin and blend.  I really like this and have repurchased it multiple times.  A tube will last me around 6 months.

Of interesting note: this primer is sold in Canada without any SPF claims because Shiseido opted not to have it certified in Canada, however it contains exactly the same ingredients as the us version (the active sunscreen ingredients are a mixture of chemical (octinoxate) and mineral (titanium dioxide) and claims an SPF of 21.

Cover FX SPF 30 protection Primer ($38 for 30ml) is a recent discovery.  And by discovery, I mean that I literally discovered this tube in my closet inside a shopping bag underneath a pile of towels.  I think my pal gave this to me – I do not recall ever purchasing this.  The expiry date on this tube is Nov 2015 so it’s still fresh.  It contains a concoction of chemical sunscreens as its SPF which isn’t my favourite, but as an extra protection underneath my mineral sunscreen, I don’t mind too much.

This is a clear silicone-y product, typical of primers that fill in pores and blur lines and it does both quite well (it’s nearly invisible when applied so I had to circle where I applied it to the back of my hand).  It also does seem to help to keep my t-zone from getting as shiny as early.  It does have a sunscreen type of smell which is typical of avobenzone.  I like how this primer looks but I don’t think it’s good for my skin – I noticed that on the days I used this, I developed a few red dots on my face.  I can’t 100% attribute it to this primer since it is also allergy season, so anything goes with my face!  But I will likely reserve this primer for days when I need my foundation to last a long time. I’d likely not buy this once I am finished the tube.  I have a cosmetics pouch full of sample sized primers I need to try – the top of my list is the Clarins instant Smooth Perfecting Touch primer, of which I have a couple of gwp jars.

Even though both of these primers contain sunscreen, I would not consider them to have sufficient coverage to be used as my sole sun protection.  The tiny amount of primer needed to function as primers render them useless as sunscreens.  I always apply a separate sunscreen on my face regardless if my moisturizer, primer or foundation contain sunscreen.  The order in which I apply my skincare, pre-makeup is as follows:

hydrating mist

hydrating serum

moisturizer

primer

zonnescherm

It may sound like I wear a lot of layers – and I suppose I do – but I allow each step to absorb before applying the next layer – they don’t look cakey once all blended.

Do you use a face primer regularly? Wat is je favoriete?

My First Miss a Haul (verzending naar Canada)

My First Miss a Haul (verzending naar Canada)

5 Malibu Glitz-maskers.

AOA F4 ROND KABUKI-borstel – $ 1,35 CAD

a2o lab Colorboard Magnetic palette – $6.75 CAD

How delightful is this? A customizable magnetized palette that fits single refill pans. miss A also sells their own brand of refills including eye shadows ($3.37), blushes, highlighters, bronzers ($4.72).  Tempting but I resisted!

Keep in mind that likely most – if not all – of the makeup on this site would be made in China. I’d personally not purchase liquid makeup from there, especially lip products.

I placed the purchase on April 7th and it arrived in 16 days (Dallas to Toronto) which is as expected. As mentioned, there is not totally free shipping option to Canada so it cost me $5.95 USD if I kept the purchase under $40.  Here are the shipping details from miss A:

International shipping to Canada

Order Amount
Kosten
Arrives in Country
(Excluding 3-5 company Day Processing Time)

Orders $40 and under
$5.95 USD
7 – 27 company days

Orders $40.01 to $70
$9.95 USD
7 – 27 company days

Orders $70.01 and up
$19.95 USD
7 – 27 company days

Side note / rant: it always baffles me why there’s totally free shipping option for the us if they hit a certain amount (it’s $35 USD on miss A) but for outside of US, the reverse holds true: the much more I spend, the much more it costs me to ship. Why shouldn’t I get totally free shipping if I spend much more too? I know it costs much more to ship outside the US, so they can just set the amount higher, for instance, set it at $70 minimum spend for totally free shipping to Canada. I have no incentive to purchase much more with this current model. Heck, it’s actually less expensive for me to place 2 separate orders of $39.99 instead of one purchase of $80 because it would just cost me $11.90 in shipping ($5.95 x 2) for 2 orders rather than $19.95 for a single large order. Great, now that I’ve pointed this out, miss A will increase their lower tier shipping rate. In ieder geval! aside from the bit about shipping, the site is fantastic and I would certainly purchase from them again.

Have you heard of miss A?  What are your thoughts on inexpensive / dollar store makeup?  What’s your preferred non-Beauty Blender sponge?

Blogmas Day 11: Christmas Traditions

Blogmas Day 11: Christmas Traditions

Today will be a more personal post. I’ve had comments asking for my name and my picture – I don’t share them on the blog for privacy reasons. It honestly shouldn’t matter if my name is Seraphina, or if I may possibly have a third eye (hey, that just means more eye shadow looks!). but sometimes it’s nice to know a little more about who I am.

In order to talk about today’s collab topic, Christmas Traditions, I’ll have to tell you a bit about my childhood.  It’s story time – gather ’round!

For long time readers, you may know that I’m adopted. I was not adopted as a wee little baby, I was adopted when I was 10 years old, so I was quite conscious of the fact that I was adopted. When I was little, I actually lived in a children’s home (aka an orphanage like little Orphan Annie ). Christmas traditions between the ages of 0 to 5 were spotty at best – life stabilized after the age of 5. The children’s home did everything possible to make the holidays the most “normal” experience as possible and we had a Christmas tree with presents etc. but the difference was that we spent the holidays with other kids and a house parent (like a counsellor) instead of with our families. We received ONE present each, and that’s it. None of this “omg my 34 presents won’t fit under the tree #realproblems” business. But, don’t pity me – I actually have very fond memories of my time at the children’s home.  (And to preemptively answer the top 2 questions I get when I tell people that I’m adopted: No, I do not know who my biological mother / father are. and no, I have no desire to find them.)

Bron

Fast forward to coming to my adopted family. They’re quite religious so in fact, Christmas Eve and morning were spent at church. We were NOT allowed to open our presents until after church! On Christmas morning we could open our stockings only, then off to church we went, then it was lunch time, then we came home to open the rest of the presents. Can you just imagine what it was like for a kid? I did mention that I’m a very patient person, right?  Our Christmas dinner was just our immediate family and it was always turkey with cranberry jelly, stuffing, gravy, popovers, mashed potatoes… I digress. (And to preemptively answer the top question I get about my adoptive family: No, we’re not close now)

And there were a few Christmases that I opted to spend the holidays entirely alone. It was a self-imposed period of solitude where I pretended Christmas didn’t exist – I turned down invitations from pals to spend the holidays with their families. I just didn’t want to bother.  So remember, there are people out there who are alone for the holidays… and in retrospect, I’m thankful I had those quiet times too.

Bron

Nowadays, Christmas is a very low-key affair, and it’s just the way I like it!  My SO and I exchange presents on Christmas Eve day, and we drive over to the in-laws (~3 hrs away) and spend Christmas Day with them.  They don’t go to church at all – we’re terrible heathens now.  We open presents before breakfast – then we have quite a fancy breakfast consisting of pear pancakes with blueberry sauce (all from scratch – YUM), bacon, sausage, and hash brown. For the rest of the day we eat, watch movies, drink, and take naps.  Christmas dinner is the typical turkey dinner – sometimes it’s ham – the best part is always dessert, usually a few kinds of pies / cakes. I always save room for dessert!

Thanks for reading – it’s something different from me on the blog.  I just wanted to share some Christmas Traditions from a different perspective.  What are some of your Christmas traditions?

This is a collaboration topic for Blogmas – be sure to check out the rest of the Babes in Blogland for their Christmas traditions:

Blogmas 2016: charm Bay and Sephora Haul (Gifts to Myself?)

Blogmas 2016: charm Bay and Sephora Haul (Gifts to Myself?)

I’m going to pass these hauls as early Christmas gifts to myself because I’m not above blatantly cheating on my low-buy.

I purchased the charm Bay items on November 24th and it finally arrived on December 16th!  The Sephora haul is from the VIB discount coupon – for VIB Rouge, the discount coupon is $25 off $50 minimum spend. I squandered no time in placing my order!

Beauty Bay

I really did not set out to haul from charm Bay but I happened to click on a link on some blog previewing Black Friday sales – I was on the site on the Thursday night before official Black Friday but the sale was live already. The deals were too good to pass up (I concentrated on brands that were 25-30% off) and everything was in stock!  I went back to look on the Friday morning and all of the items I had purchased were already sold out. It was a sign, I tell you!  Here’s what I got:

• Anna Sui gift Tin (£3.12 / C$5.20)
• Anna Sui makeup palette #2 (£7.50 / C$12.60)
• Anna Sui Eye & face Colour Angel Feather A500 Tree (£3.93 / C$6.60)
• Anna Sui Eye & face Colour velvet Corsage V500 Amber (£5.62 / C$9.40)

These were all from the new Anna Sui revamped packaging line. just look at the packaging and the case!  I can’t believe how inexpensive everything was.

• Illamasqua Powder Blusher Disobey (£10.91 / C$18.30)
• Illamasqua Powder Eye shadow in Heroine (£8.18 / C$13.70)
I’d missed out on the much hyped Heroine eye shadow when Hudson’s Bay was clearing out their inventory – it sold out before I had a chance to get one – I was happy to snag it on sale for 30% off.

• Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel (£21.06 / C$35.40)
This product only recently came into my radar but I was really curious about its texture of gel to oil. getting it on sale was just icing on the cake!

• face Atelier Ultra foundation in Wheat (£16.24 / C$27.30)
This is one of those makeup artist industry insider cult products that I’ve been wanting to try for ages, but it’s challenging to get a hold of. It’s expected to give the most flawless complexion without the need for primer.

• Ellis Faas Creamy Eyes E116 Lilac (£9.88 / C$16.60)
A niche Dutch brand with striking packaging that I’ve always wanted to try – these are shaped like elongated bullets and fit into holders that resemble device gun bullet clips. This particular colour was 50% off so I jumped on it.

• ARTDECO Eyeshadow brush premium (£8.82 / C$14.80)
• Louise young small Socket brush (£7.28 / C$12.20)
More brushes, of course. The Artdeco brush looks a lot like the MAC 239 Shader brush… for less than half of MAC’s price.

Sephora

I got myself a customizable palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills, filled with 4 shadows of my own choosing!  The singles sell frequently for C$16 each, and the empty 4-pan palette is C$8 if purchased separately. Sephora provides the filled palette for C$56 which is a $74 value. I used my C$25 off discount coupon toward this so it cost me C$31 total.

After much research and swatching at the store, I chose: Chiffon, Comfort, chocolate Crumble, and Rosette. I’m very thrilled to try these!

And this time around, I actually remembered to select my 3 samples with my order:

I chose: Dior Rouge lipstick samples (these are all mattes though hrm), MIU MIU eau de parfum, and Acqua Di Parma Rosa Nobile eau de parfum samples.

Merry Christmas TO ME!  Did you purchase yourself any early Christmas presents?
